Delivery and opposites

Of course, the way a song is sung changes its effect. But how about using
this to ones advantage.
Many songs work well because they are performed from a place almost
polarized with the content, and by this I mean that the musical character
of the song is almost at loggerheads with the subject matter, but
TOGETHER the delivery vs. material combines to make a greater whole.

Some of these songs are bittersweet, like 'Killing Me Softly' - not only is this a pretty song which is heartbreaking, but even the title has this positive/negative idea behind it.
If you think about the different ways your song could be delivered this can help turn your song around 180 degrees for the better.

Also, the juxtaposition of musical style can change things dramatically. A beautiful melody sung innocently over a blistering wall of rock guitars anybody?
